Penstock safety valves
Penstock safety valves are installed at the bottom of dams, before the penstock. They have the task of shutting-off the flow of water if the penstock leading down to the valley is destroyed or damaged as a result of material fatigue, uncontrolled earth movements or sabotage. This prevents the entire water reservoir from draining out with devastating consequences.
The safety valves are mainly steel-welded with hydrodynamically optimized valve discs, in monoplane or bi-plane designs. The valves come equipped with hydraulic servomotors as the opening mechanism and a lever with counterweight for forced closing.
